*Try dresses out of your comfort zone (at least one), you might be surprised.
*Think about how you want to look that day and in 20 years in pictures (classic vs. trendy, chic vs. glam).
*Match your dress with the venue. Short aisle may equal short train. Aisle width is also important.
*Budget enough money and time for alterations, fittings, undergarments, etc.

Its easy to get caught up in the romance of the gown, but have someone with you who thinks a little more pragmatically as well.

So true. In the begining there is romance and excitement. The true test is when the looks fade, the hair turns grey or falls out, and the body gets a little more squishy in the middle. If your eyes still light up when they enter the room then that's a love that will stand the test of time. I wish that for all my couples.
